
The brutal murder of two (2) people was verified on Tuesday by Faleye Olayele, Commissioner of Police for the Ebonyi State Command.
The boundary dispute between the Abaomege-Oshinkwo communities in the State’s Onicha Local Government Area affected the victims, whose names have not yet been released as of the time of filing this story.
A police officer was also hurt by the warlords, according to a statement the command’s spokeswoman, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, gave to reporters in Abakaliki.
Hundreds of innocent people are said to have died as a result of the long-running boundary dispute between the two communities of Abaomege and Oshinkwo, as well as the destruction of precious assets worth millions of naira.
The disputed land had been revoked and the two groups had been told to keep away by the previous administration, which was led by David Umahi.
Just one week after the outgoing governor, Umahi, turned over power to the current administration led by governor Francis Nwifuru, the crisis flared up again.
On the condition of anonymity, the source told newsmen in Abakaliki that “three people from Ukawu were shot dead, and one of them happened to be my uncle’s wife dead.
“The Abaomege-Oshinkwo community crisis area is where three people, including a police officer who was returning home after work, were shot by Oshinkwo warriors, the Commissioner of Police, Olaleye said through the command’s spokesperson, Onovwakpoyeya.
The patients were taken directly to the hospital. The policeman is responding to treatment, but two of the victims have been certified dead.The commissioner further stated that a thorough manhunt is underway to catch the evading warlords.
